Kevin Barfield

Kevin is native of Camden and raised 2 sons now 25 and 27 years old. For 20 years he has been advocating for Parental Rights, Social and Environmental Justice. He volunteered for 15 years in the Camden City Public School District serving on the Title 1 District Parent Advisory Councils including Special Needs and Early Childhood Education as co-chair, secretary and president. During this time he served on numerous district level committees assisting in school initiatives, policies, regulations and strategic plans to name a few. While being engaged in education this didn’t stop him from giving his time to community base organizations, non profits and political campaigns. Afterward he served 2 years as president of Camden County NAACP Branch #2080. He’s a community organizer and is currently Executive Director of Camden for Clear Air, an environmental justice group that advocates for air quality, clean water, lead free soil and other important issues. He was recently appointed to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Environmental Justice Advisory Council. These experiences have provided him a better understanding of the impact systems and policies have on underserved communities which has led him to be steadfast and passionate in enforcing policy and regulations on all levels of government. The disinvestments in the infrastructure in urban cities like Camden is why he’s involved with groups like Clean Water Action NJ Board which he’s a current board member. Kevin continues to support groups and organizations that drive and advocate for amendments to policies and new legislation that improve the quality of life for fenceline communities. His recent involvement in Bread & Roses Climate Justice Organizing and Grantmaking Committees is another example of his commitment to channeling resources to groups who serve the most vulnerable communities. Since moving to Collingswood Kevin has witnessed a need for representation and more engagement in the 5th district. He’s grateful for this opportunity and looks forward to working with the Camden County Collingswood Democratic Committee.
